K-pop icon Seo Taiji’s divorce from E Jiah is getting even more complicated.

Seo said yesterday that he would agree to his ex-wife’s withdrawal of her lawsuit against him on the condition that the two parties cease slandering each other.

Both sides must agree in order to withdraw a lawsuit.

E Jiah sued in January to divide the couple’s estate following their divorce in the United States. The suit, which became public in April, was a shock to Koreans, who had not known the two celebrities had been married.

To avoid public scrutiny, E expressed her intention of dropping the suit. But Seo insisted that the lawsuit go forward, saying that it would help public misunderstanding.

A fourth hearing for the lawsuit at the Seoul Family Court, scheduled for Monday, was suddenly postponed until Aug. 8 at Seo’s request. Seo’s representatives said in a statement Monday that the request was made to “thoroughly prepare a response to E’s new claim.” E, according to Seo’s representatives, recently claimed that their divorce, which was made in the U.S., could be invalid in Korea.

Late Monday, E’s representatives said that her claim remained unchanged and that she received legal advice to finalize her divorce in Korea to avoid further legal problems.

A lawsuit between singer Seo Tai-ji and his ex-wife, actress E Ji-ah, entered yet another phase as the hearing was postponed to August.

The hearing over alimony and division of assets between the two stars will take place on Aug. 8. Both parties provided differing reasons as to why it is being delayed.

“The plaintiff (E Ji-ah) changed her position on the content of the lawsuit and requested changes to terms of her claim,” said Seo’s agency Seotaiji Company on Monday. “In order to counter the plaintiff’s new claim, we decided it was necessary to review legal issues, and thus asked for the hearing to be postponed.”

E said that their divorce was not valid, according to Seotaiji Company.

“Contrary to the plaintiff’s insistence that the divorce was finalized in 2009, the defendant (Seo) proved that their marriage ended in 2006 by providing legal divorce papers,” said the agency.

“But the plaintiff changed her claim and said that even though it is true the two were married and divorced in the United States, the U.S. court’s ruling was invalid. Arguing that she is still married to Seo, she submitted new terms for requesting alimony and division of assets, taking the case into a new direction,” said the agency.

E’s agency Key East, on the other hand, said, “We regret that it became known that E is deliberately trying to reexamine the divorce. Though it is true that she inspected conditions of the separation, she has not made a request yet.”

It emphasized, “E has not submitted a formal request to alter the terms of the lawsuit, and only agreed to (Seo’s) request for a postponement in hopes of wrapping up the case smoothly.”

In fact E had no intention to continue the legal dispute, said Key East, but only chose to do so because Seo did not agree with E’s decision to withdraw the lawsuit. “E’s wish to reach a fair compromise over related issues remains intact.”

Famed Korean singer Seo Tai-ji and actress Lee Ji-ah agreed to end their alimony suit on Friday, ending a six-month legal battle.

In a letter of agreement submitted to the Seoul Family Court, the two confirmed that they divorced in the United States in 2006 and said they will no longer question it, Lee’s agency Keyeast said in a statement.

There was no money involved in the deal, it added.

The agency disclosed the entire text on the divorce settlement as both parties felt the need to prevent further rumors and misunderstandings after the legal agreement.

Both also agreed not to file any lawsuits, engage in money transactions, publication and release of albums regarding their marriage, along with relationships derived from it, the agency said.

To settle the dispute they consented not to claim each other’s civil or criminal liability on divorce anymore. They also agreed to levy a penalty of 200 million won ($190,000) on any publications related to their previous marriage.

The divorce suit between the legendary Korean singer and the actress shocked the country in April, as their marriage had been kept in secret for 14 years and it was only some days after Lee revealed her romantic relationship with actor Jung Woo-sung. Even Jung did not know that Lee was married to Seo. The two later broke up.

The news surprised many as the 33-year-old actress filed the lawsuit against Seo in January. She demanded 5 billion won for her share of matrimonial properties and 500 million won in alimony. The legal dispute became public in April.

Although their marital relationship ended in the U.S., legal flaws required both sides to follow legally documented divorce procedures.

Former S. Korean singer, actress agree to end alimony suit SEOUL, July 29 (Yonhap) -- A former top South Korean singer and his estranged actress wife agreed to end their alimony suit, the actress's management agency said Friday.

In a letter of agreement submitted to the Seoul Family Court, Seo Tai-ji and Lee Ji-ah confirmed that they divorced in the United States in 2006 and said they will no longer question it, KeyEast said in a release.

Seo and Lee also promised not to use any detail of their marriage for commercial purposes, such as publishing a book about the ordeal. The penalty for breaking the promise is 200 million won (US$190,041), the statement said.

Lee filed the lawsuit against Seo in January, claiming 5 billion won for her share of matrimonial properties and 500 million won in alimony. But the lawsuit, as well as their 14-year secret marriage, remained unknown until a local sports daily broke the news in April.

The revelations came as a greater shock to the public as both Seo and his 33-year-old ex-wife were cast as enigmatic figures who lived in a strictly private manner.

Allegedly suffering from "extreme mental distress" from the disclosure of her marriage and divorce, Lee dropped the suit on April 30. But the suit was kept alive as Seo had refused to end litigation.

Seo Tai Ji and Lee Ji Ah finally reached an agreement to end their lawsuit and finalized their divorce on July 29. Lee Ji Ah’s agency Keyeast said, “Both sides had discussed the matter thoroughly and finally reached an agreement at 10 am in the court.” The agency disclosed the entire contents with the consent of both parties, and it was written on the agreement that Seo Tai Ji and Lee Ji Ah will divorce without any monetary transaction. They also agreed not to file any lawsuit later concerning their marriage and relationship derived from their past relationship, not to slander the other, not to have any monetary transactions, and not to publish any book or music album concerning their marriage. Lee Ji Ah had filed a suit for a divorce with Seo Tai Ji and asked for consolation money and separation of property last January, and their secret 14-year relationship had become open to the public last April and created a stir.






Lee Ji Ah had dropped the case on April 30 as the lawsuit proceeded, but Seo Tai Ji contested the withdrawal, so their suit had been proceeding up until now. The agency said, “According to ‘The Hague Convention on the Service Abroad of Judicial and Extra-judicial Document in Civil or Commercial Matters,’ their divorce in the US had legal deficiency and another divorce procedure was required. In addition, there was no monetary transaction between two parties, which was totally different from the news report. We revealed its entire contents with the consent of both parties after consideration because we want to prevent any further rumors or misunderstanding even after this divorce agreement.”

According to the agreement, they had already divorced before the lawsuit was filed, but they are following the divorce process again as their former divorce was legally flawed and could potentially create further dispute. Both parties agreed that they will not raise any claim against the other about their relationship and they will not publish any document concerning their marriage. If either party publishes a book about their marriage, they are liable to a payment of two million won to the other. Keyeast said, “We sincerely desire that there will be no more misunderstanding and rumors. We want you to consider that they have already suffered untold agony so far as human beings.”

After be caught up in the Lee Jia scandal earlier this year, singer Seo Taiji is in the headlines again. This time for conflicts regarding his real estate leasing contract fees.

According to the Seoul Central District Court on September 7th, the operator of a real estate company in Jamwon-dong of Seoul, Mr. Kim, said that Seo still has yet to pay the related real estate commission fee despite the deal having been finalized.

Kim explained that last March, there was a request from a Mr. Byeon that wanted to rent out an entire building to run a hospital. Kim thus introduced Byeon to a building that was also home to Seo's recording studio, and finalized the contract-- with a clause working out the deal for Seo--for Byeon.

Actress E Ji-ah, who put her acting career on a halt when her secretive marriage and divorce to rock icon Seo Taiji became exposed, is considering a role in a Hollywood film.

An official at E's agency KEYEAST told 10Asia over the phone on Wednesday that the actress has been asked to appear in a Hollywood film by a famous director with there being a high chance she will take on the role if the two parties agree on the conditions of the contract since E was raised in the U.S. and hence, will not have problems acting her lines in English.

The official also added that E has been offered roles in Chinese and Korean projects so she has yet to decide on when and how she will make her return to the spotlight.

However, she will not have an easy time making up her mind and it is too early to anticipate the public's response to her comeback -- her relationship with Seo put the country into a state of shock not only because both had been believed to be single after keeping their relationship a secret for 15 years but in March, E had also admitted to dating top actor Jung Woo-sung, her co-star of SBS TV series "Athena."

The following month, E's married and divorced past with top Korean rocker Seo Taiji became known to the public, four months after she filed a divorce suit which demanded alimony and division of assets from Seo for the divorce.

The two reached a settlement in late July but only after months of exchanging claims and arguments which went public as well.

演员李智雅将出演11月初开播的MBC周三、四电视剧《我也是花》她与歌手徐泰智结婚、离婚一事被曝光后一度停止活动，这是她时隔8个月重返荧屏。她在该剧将饰演主角车凤善。该剧讲述了女巡警车凤善与隐瞒身份在名品店停车场工作的财阀徐载熙之间的浪漫爱情。由曾执导《贤内助女王》的Go Dong-seon任导演，《我叫金三顺》的编剧Kim Do-u任编剧。

李智雅经纪公司Keyeast表示，“本人就何时复出考虑很多，最后觉得该作品和角色很有吸引力，加上相信编剧和导演，所以决定出演。她表示一定要演好该剧，以回报其间一直支持自己的粉丝们。”

李智雅曾对徐泰智提起诉讼，要求支付补偿费和分割财产，但7月以协议方式结束纠纷。

Actress E Jiah is returning to television with the lead role in MBC’s “I’m a Flower, Too,” which is scheduled to air in early November.

It has been eight months since E was last seen on TV, when she appeared in SBS’s “Athena: Goddess of War.”

News about the actress rocked the nation in April when it was revealed that she was secretly married and divorced to rock star Seo Taiji. The two had been married for 14 years, according to local daily SportsSeoul.

“We thought a great deal about the right time to bring E back and the right program to work with,” a spokesperson at Lee’s agency KeyEast said. “We decided she would come back with this program because we trust the writer and producer of the program.”

“I’m a Flower, Too” is written by Kim Do-woo, who co-wrote the popular drama series “My Name is Kim Sam-soon” (2005) and “Queen of Housewives” (2009).

In the series, E plays policewoman Cha Bong-seon, who falls in love with a parking lot attendant at a luxury department store.

The rest of the cast has not yet been announced.

Actress E Ji-ah, who took a break from her entertainment career in the aftermath of news reports of her secret marriage, divorce and legal fight with musician Seo Tai-ji, will come back to the small screen for MBC drama “Me Too, Flower!” the broadcaster and her agency said.

She will play the role of police officer Cha Bong-sun who falls in love with a tycoon Seo Jae-hee who secretly moonlights as a parking attendant at a luxury brand shop. The male lead role will be played by Kim Jae-won, MBC said.

“We were worried about the timing of her comeback. But the drama and her character were very attractive and we thought we could count on the writer and the producer,” E’s agency KeyEast said.

E’s legal wrangle with Seo ended in July as she withdrew her law suit. She had initiated a suit in January requesting 5 billion won in a property settlement and 500 million won in alimony from her former husband.

A press release from the major broadcaster announced that E, Kim and the rest of the cast of the new series "Flower, Me Too" (tentative title) took part in the first reading for the show in Seoul earlier in the week.

"I feel that the actors in the show are one step closer to becoming their characters," director Ko Dong-sun was quoted as saying. "I'm really glad that E and the others suit them very well."

The series will tell the story of Seo Jae-hee (Kim), the owner of a designer label shop and a parking attendant, who falls in love with an ill-tempered policewoman named Cha Bong-sun (E).

The romantic comedy will be helmed by Ko Dong-sun of "Queen of Housewives" (MBC, 2009) and written by scenarist Kim Do-woo of MBC's 2005 smash hit "My Name is Kim Sam-soon."

"Flower," set to air in early November after current series "Hate to Lose" finishes its run, also stars BEAST member Gi-kwang, Han Go-eun and Seo Hyo-rim.

Korean actor Yoon Si-yoon will take over the role of the male lead in an upcoming TV series opposite actress E Ji-ah, according to his agency Taxi Entertainment.

An official with Taxi told 10Asia over the phone on Friday that Yoon will take on the role of Seo Jae-hee, originally set to be played by Kim Jae-won, the owner of a designer label shop and a parking attendant who falls in love with an ill-tempered policewoman named Cha Bong-sun (E) in MBC's new series "Flower, Me Too" (translated title).

"Yoon decided to take on this project because of director Ko Dong-sun and scenarist Kim Do-woo," the official explained. "And we feel that this is the right step for Yoon as an actor."

Earlier today, MBC announced in a press release that Kim was to leave "Flower" after he dislocated his shoulder a week ago after shooting a scene where he was riding a scooter.

Kim was advised by doctors that he will need up to four weeks for recovery with examination having shown that his ligaments and cartilage got torn while his bone got fractured.

Yoon made his debut in 2009 with MBC’s sitcom “High Kick 2,” rose to stardom last year as the male lead in “Bread, Love and Dreams” (KBS, 2010) which breached viewership ratings of 50 percent and won him second prize in acting in the area of special drama production at KBS' year-end awards.

Actor Kim Jae-won will leave an upcoming TV series he was set to star in opposite actress E Ji-ah.

A press release by MBC, the broadcaster of the show titled "Flower, Me Too" (translated title), said on Friday that Kim will step down from the show due to his shoulder injury.

Kim's shoulder had dislocated last week when a scooter he was riding while shooting a scene for the show malfunctioned.

Doctors said he will need up to four weeks for recovery with examination having shown that his ligaments and cartilage got torn while his bone got fractured.

Accordingly, producers and Kim's party had halted shooting of the show, set to premiere on November 2, and discussed on the measure they should take.

Through a press release on Wednesday, the show's broadcaster released a photo of E and Yoon posing as their characters Cha Bong-sun and Seo Jae-hee, respectively, taken during the shoot for the poster for drama "Flower, Me Too" (translated title) held this week.

Actress E Ji-ah says she wants to repay those that stood by her during her incident with rock icon Seo Taiji by making her return to acting.

She made the remark at a press conference held in Seoul on Monday for her upcoming MBC TV series "Flower, Me Too" (translated title), while speaking about making her comeback in seven months after news broke out about her secretive marriage and divorce to Seo.

The news had put the country into a state of shock since both were believed to be single and just the previous month, she had admitted to dating top actor Jung Woo-sung. Since then, she had kept out of the public's eye.

"I was kind of surprised at myself as well [for making a return] but everyone around me seemed to be having a more difficult time than I was so I felt that returning to where I belong, which is acting, would be the way to repay them," E explained.

She then said, "Director Ko Dong-sun (whose works included MBC's "Queen of Housewives") and scenarist Kim Do-woo of MBC's hit series 'My Name is Kim Sam-soon' were a big help too. And I felt a kind of warmth to the drama's storyline as well."

"Flower" tells the story of Cha Bong-sun (E), an ill-tempered policewoman later diagnosed with depression due to her poor background, that begins to realize the importance of relationships after she meets Seo Jae-hee (played by Yoon Si-yoon), who works as a parking attendant in the morning and a C.E.O at night.

The show, also starring member Lee Gi-kwang, Han Go-eun and Seo Hyo-rim, will air every Wednesday and Thursday nights starting November 9.

Lee Ji-ah Resurfaces After Divorce Scandal lee Ji-ah The actress Lee Ji-ah, who disappeared from public view eight months ago after a flurry of suits and countersuits over her divorce from pop legend Seo Tai-ji, made her first official public appearance on Monday.

Asked about her secret marriage and very public divorce from Seo, she said, "I am relieved to shed the mysterious reputation and rumors about me and return to who I really am. It feels like a wall around me has been taken down."

She added that she hopes someday to be able to speak frankly about her divorce trial so the questions it leaves open can be answered. "I hope that day will come soon," she added.

Lee filed a W5 billion (US$1=W1,106) lawsuit against Seo for alimony and division of assets, but settled out of court in July.

Summary

"Flower, I Am" is about the love between a female character who went through many hardships while growing up and a male character who has achieved both wealth and success and is now drawn to unaffected women, a format that is cliche enough to be carried in an elementary school textbook. But to this, the element of 'forming a healthy relationship' has been added. Bong-sun, who cannot stand unjustice and raises her voice to the hypocritical world, and Dal (Seo Hyo-rim) who openly tries to become the most pretentious girl in the world full of vanity, both get pointed at in the standardized society they live in yet are members of it created by society itself and are characters that bring out a single side that everyone has to them on the inside. So these "daring and rude" characters seek a healthy and enjoyable life while getting involved with Jae-hee who lives a life full of freedom while being loved by many women, CEO Hwa-young (Han Go-eun) who is up to every move, and Tae-hwa (Cho Min-gi) who is a man of considerable wealth yet does not look down on the have-nots. That is why what is important about "Flower, I Am" is the process through which these somewhat excessively daring yet somehow lacking people find out about themselves by meeting with new people and reach out for each other. So will "Flower, I Am" be able to become a 'healing comedy' which breaks away from ordinary romantic comedies and provides hope to its viewers as well?

To see, or not to see


To see? "Flower, I Am" received attention for its actors E Ji-ah and Yoon Si-yoon more than its story and characters. Without it meaning to be so, "Flower, I Am" has become a platform for scrutiny for actress E who herself said, "I haven't been on a long break but it feels like it's been a very long time," and because Yoon Si-yoon joined the project just recently to replace the original male star who stepped down from his role from an injury, more are interested in the product they will produce. But E showed her affection for her character by saying, "Bong-sun is so honest and innocent that she has a hard time living her life. So I feel sorry for her." Seo Tai-ji In a bid to better conserve the area, around five hectares of rainforest in Guapi Assu will be officially be named "Seo Tai-ji Forest" on March 21 after the Korean singer of the same name. This marks the fruition of a project by the singer's fans, who began collecting donations two years ago in order to celebrate the 20th anniversary of his musical debut.

Back in January of 2010, members of his online fan club were discussing how to celebrate the 20th anniversary of Seo's debut when one of them proposed doing something to help save the planet's natural resources by staking a claim to an area facing environmental destruction.

Other fans immediately warmed to the idea and formed a team to pursue the project. In July of that year, the fan club signed a memorandum of understanding with the British environmental group World Land Trust to create the Seo Tai-ji Forest. The donations from Seo's fans were delivered to the World Land Trust, which handed the money to REGUA, an environmental group based in the Guapi Assu region. The money was used to buy trees to plant in the dedicated area, which will open to the public this spring.

The fan club joined hands with other groups of people loyal to the singer and held events publicizing the demarcation of the forest. They also held various events, such as selling Seo Tai-ji dolls, in order to raise funds.

Other fans who found out about the project through various channels donated anywhere from several thousand to hundreds of thousands of won. The original target was to raise W5 million (US$1=W1,127), but a total of W38.67 million was collected by the end of last year.

The donations grabbed the attention of Brazilian media. Last May, REGUA set up a large poster of Seo at its office bearing a caption in Korean saying that fans of the musician were creating a forest in order to help save the environment. The environmental group also published an article in its newsletter in June saying that donations from Seo's fans made it possible to plant 27,500 trees, which were proving a huge success in preserving the local rainforest.

Seo Tai-ji Company, the management agency owned by the musician, said it was deeply touched by the fan-led project, adding that Seo was aware of the campaign through the fan club's website.

Seo formed the music group "Seo Tai-ji & Boys" in 1992 and produced a string of mega-hit albums that shifted the landscape of Korean pop music.
