Jung Woo-sung and E Jiah have announced that they are dating.

Jung made the announcement on his official fan club site on Sunday. In the statement he said that he had “recently begun to date someone” he had met through “Athena: Goddess of War,” the popular SBS series that ended last month.

Jung and E played government agents tracking terrorists on the show.

Rumors that the couple were dating began circulating after a Korean traveler captured the two together in Paris earlier this month.

Jung has been featured in many hit films including “Rein of Assassins” (2010) and “The Good, The Bad, The Weird” (2008). E is a rising starlet who has appeared in drama series including “Beethoven Virus” (2008).

Top Korean rocker Seo Taiji and actress E Ji-ah are said to have been married and are in the process of getting a divorce, a local media outlet reported on Thursday.

Sports daily Sport Seoul said that E Ji-ah, real name Kim Ji-ah, filed for divorce against Seo Taiji, whose real name is Jung Hyun-chul, in January of this year.

The news comes as a shock since nobody had been aware of their relationship, let alone suspicious of the two. E was spotted at Seo Taiji's concert in March 2009 but was presumed to have been a fan of the top artist.

Furthermore, both were believed to be unmarried -- Seo Taiji has kept his personal life closed to the public although it would have been difficult for his marriage to have gone unnoticed due to his high-profile life and E recently admitted she is dating top Korean actor Jung Woo-sung, her co-star of TV series "Athena."

Nonetheless, the two's legal representatives have completed two rounds of hearings, last month and this month, with the Seoul Family Court, Sports Seoul stated.

The paper said it is unclear when the two married but speculated they were able to keep their relationship a secret by spending their time together overseas, mostly in the U.S. and Japan.

Seo Taiji, who debuted as a member of a metal band Sinawe but switched gears to his band Seo Taiji & Boys in 1992, became a million seller with four albums but left for the U.S. in 1996 after abruptly announcing his retirement as an artist.

He returned to the local music scene in the late 1990s however and has maintained his reputation as one of the most respected artists in the country.

E made her debut in the 2007 historical epic "Four Gods" as Suzini, the love interest of Hallyu star Bae Yong-jun. She also appeared in the big screen with "My Love, Ugly Duckling" alongside actor Kang Ji-hwan.

To the great shock of fans, musician Seo Tai-ji and actress Lee Ji-ah are in a divorce suit, Sports Seoul reported Thursday.

Seo, the media-shy enfant terrible of Korean hard rock, is famous for leading a secretive life but the report that he is married shocked the nation via cyberspace.

The report is all the more shocking because Lee created top headlines last month when heartthrob actor Jung Woo-sung admitted to having a special relationship with Lee. Jung and Lee starred together in recent SBS spy drama “ATHENA: Goddess of War.”

“The divorce suit became known on April 18 when the Seoul Family Court held the second trial of their case. Lee Ji-ah initiated the lawsuit in January, asking Seo Tai-ji for settlement and division of property,” the report said.

“The two sides have had two trials in March and in April.”

The report also said that the relationship between Seo and Lee was hinted at in March 2009, when Lee went to Seo’s concert at the Olympic Park.

Since her 2004 debut in a TV commercial, Lee’s personal profile has hardly been known to the public, which is why Lee and Seo were able to keep their marriage and the reported divorce suit a secret.

It was not known when and where the two were allegedly married but news reports said the ceremony took place in 1997.

Seo debuted in 1992 by leading boy band Seo Taiji & Boys and the group’s title song “I Know” became a major hit. After disbanding the group in 1996, Seo announced that he would not return to the K-pop scene but made a comeback in 1998. Since 1998, Seo has been releasing albums and enjoys a fan following.

The report claiming that singer Seo Tai-ji and actress Lee Ji-ah involved in a divorce suit has created sensation online as a local news media revealed the shocking news Thursday.

The news spread quickly online as Twitter users began retweeting the news at a brisk pace.

Seo Tai-ji’s divorce is creating a stir as the singer, thought to be single, is rumored to have been married to actress E Ji-ah. E’s real name is Kim Ji-ah.

According to legal sources, a woman known by her surname Kim began divorce proceedings in January, asking for alimony and division of property amounting to about 5 billion won. The second hearing was on Monday, with four attorneys on Seo’s side and three representing his wife.

It has yet to be proven that E is the Kim in question.

The 39-year-old Seo, whose real name is Jeong Hyeon-chol, and 30-year-old E, were both thought to be unmarried. Their reported divorce suit has shocked the Korean entertainment scene, particularly since E recently admitted dating actor Jung Woo-sung.

Their agencies have been unable to contact the stars for comment.

“Seo Tai-ji has been overseas to work on his album, and we are unable to reach him at the moment. It’s his personal matter so we don’t know anything but we believe it is untrue,” said Seo’s agency Seotaiji Company.

“We haven’t been able to get in touch with E Ji-ah since yesterday and we don’t know anything,” said E’s agency Key East.

E attended a Seo Tai-ji Wormhole Concert in March 2009 and this is the only known official link between Seo and E.

Seo debuted in 1992 as a leader of "The Taiji Boys" and released four albums including "Come Back Home" (1995). He was a K-pop icon in the mid-1990s.

He announced his retirement in 1996 and left for the United States. Seo later returned to the K-pop scene as a solo artist, but his private life was kept well-protected.

E studied at the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena before starting acting in 2007 as the heroine of hit drama "Taewangsasingi" (The Four Guardian Gods of the King). She later starred in television dramas such as “Beethoven Virus” (2008), “Style” (2009) and most recently “Athena” (2010).

Fans of Korean pop music pioneer Seo Tai-ji are reeling after news reports released Thursday that the singer has lived with actress Lee Ji-ah and that the two have filed for a lawsuit.

According to the Seoul Family Court Thursday, Lee filed a lawsuit against Seo on Jan. 19 demanding 500 million won (463,000 U.S. dollars) in compensation and division of wealth. The two argued their cases in court on March 14 and Monday, and the date of the third trial is May 23.


A source at the court said only their legal representatives attended the arguments.


In an unprecedented move for a domestic relations suit, both Lee and Seo formed large-scale defense teams, with Lee employing four attorneys and Seo three.


Lee did not file a divorce suit against Seo at the same time, however. The source said, “This is because either they are in a common-law marriage or have already divorced,” adding, “Even if they are informally married, either party can demand compensation and division of wealth.”


Lee made her entertainment debut as the heroine of the MBC historical drama “The Legend” that aired in 2007. Among milestones in her successful career was winning Best New TV Actress at the Baeksang Arts Awards in 2008 for her role in the MBC drama “Beethoven Virus.”


She is called a “mysterious actress,” however, given little information on her background. The only public information about her is that she lived in the U.S. for about 10 years and returned to Korea after graduating from an American college.

歌手徐太志（原名郑贤哲•39岁•图片）与演员李智雅（原名金智雅•30岁•图片）被曝原本是夫妻关系，给无数粉丝带来了冲击。

首尔家庭法院21日指出，李智雅已于1月19日对徐太志提出诉讼，要求赔偿5亿韩元并分配财产。上个月14日与本月18日已经进行第一次与第二次辩论，第三次辩论将在下月23日进行。法院相关人士解释道“当事人并未出席，都是由法律代理人进行辩护的。”


案件当事人委托的律师团规模非常庞大，李智雅聘请4名律师，徐太志则聘请了3名律师。


但是，李智雅并没有同时提出离婚诉讼申请。法院相关人士透露，“可能是事实婚姻关系，也有可能已经完成离婚手续。即使是事实婚姻，也可以要求赔偿金并分配财产。”


因为近期演员郑有成（38岁）承认与李智雅交往，所以有人猜测本次诉讼是否与两人交往有关。郑有成与李智雅一同出演SBS连续剧“阿西娜：战争女神”，近期还被发现在巴黎一起散步。郑有成在与粉丝的交流会上表示“我们很聊得来，希望各位能够支持。”有关李智雅的诉讼，郑有成表示“我全然不知情，如果事先知情，绝对不会交往的。”李智雅所属公司代表当天接受东亚日报电话采访时表示“目前无法联系李智雅，与本人确认情况后，我们会发布报导数据的。”

据悉，徐泰智方面上月14日在首次开庭的辩论准备中主张“离婚时间是2006年”，这和李智雅方面的说法显然不同。之所以双方就离婚时间的主张各自不同，是因为法律上规定离婚后要求离婚损害赔偿的年限为三年。按照徐泰智的主张，李智雅此次提起的诉讼在法律上不能成立。女方聘请的是“BARUN”法律事务所的四名律师，男方则聘请“SU”法律事务所的三名律师。

徐泰智和李智雅有一个共同点，那就是两人的隐私严格对外保密。这导致徐泰智到了适婚年龄后，有关他的绯闻不断。徐泰智在1996年随组合解散宣布隐退，并远赴美国洛杉矶，一年后就出现了他已结婚的传闻。传闻说：“有人目睹徐泰智在丹佛等地和一位女性游玩。”当时徐泰智极力否认。

李智雅的隐私可谓“密不透风”，以致她在出道初期被称作“外星人”。有传闻称，李智雅的本名是Kim Sang-eun，出道前改成金智雅，最后才改为李智雅。李智雅在各种采访中介绍自己说：“1981年2月2日出生，小学6年级时随父母移民美国，并在那里生活了10年左右。加利福尼亚大学帕萨迪纳艺术中心的图形设计系毕业。”不过这些都未经证实。

Hours after sending the country into a state of shock and confusion, Korean actress E Ji-ah admitted she had married rocker Seo Taiji.

A statement issued by E's agency KEYEAST late on Thursday acknowledged a report from earlier in the day which claimed that E Ji-ah married Seo Taiji, Korea's cultural icon from the '90s.

Nobody had been aware of their relationship, let alone suspicious of the two, and both were believed to be unmarried. Furthermore, E had recently announced she is dating top Korean actor Jung Woo-sung, her co-star of TV series "Athena."

Contrary to yesterday's report however, KEYEAST stressed that E is not in the process of getting a divorce from Seo Taiji but had rather already split from him in 2009 after filing for it in 2006, due to differences in personality and the unordinary job and lifestyle of her then-husband.

E had then worked toward reaching an agreement on her compensation for the divorce but upon nearing the statue of limitations on the issue, at three years under Korean law, she filed a suit asking for alimony and division of property on January 19 of this year.

KEYEAST then provided a detailed description on the two's relationship.

E, now reported to be born in 1978, went to study abroad in the U.S. in 1993 and the same year met Seo Taiji through an acquaintance when he was in the country for a concert.

They started dating after having kept in touch and became closer when Seo Taiji left for the U.S. in 1996 after abruptly announcing his retirement as an artist.

The two then quietly married the following year, living in Atlanta and Arizona until Seo Taiji made his comeback to the music scene in Korea in June 2000. E was left alone up till 2006 when she filed for divorce.

In the meantime, E had shot a television commercial in Korea by chance when she briefly visited Korea in late 2004 and took interest in becoming a celebrity after meeting the chief of KEYEAST on set.

She returned to Korea in early 2005 and auditioned for 2007 historical epic "Four Gods," starring Hallyu star Bae Yong-joon, in which she landed her debut role as the leading female character. That is the year she signed with KEYEAST.

"She had to hide her personal life because the other party was a highly famous person. She is sorry to everyone that she could not tell the truth regarding everything and she herself has spent times that have been hard to bear alone," KEYEAST remarked at the end of the statement.

"She may have been young but she truly loved him and she wanted to see an amicable ending to things so she is truly sorry that she has not been able to do that."

When the news first broke, Jung Woo-sung's rep at Taurus Films had told 10Asia that the actor is "extremely confused and taken aback" while hoping what has been reported is not true. He has not spoken to the press since the release of KEYEAST's official statement.

Angry fans of the singer and the actress say the two have deceived the public, but pop culture experts said their privacy should be respected.

Jeong Jae-sik, a pop culture analyst, said Seo had almost been a "cult leader" among his hardcore fans and it was only a logical choice on his part to keep his marriage under the carpet and maintain his aura of secrecy.

"Losing that air of mystery is fatal to being a cult leader, because getting married is something an ordinary person does," Jeong said.

Lee Taek-gwang, an English literature professor at Kyung Hee University in Seoul and a pop culture expert, said Seo and Lee simply tried to keep their private life just that -- private.

"We as a society tend to see lives of celebrities as public domain," Lee said. "It's a strange situation where Seo and Lee merely tried to take control of their own lives and are getting criticized for deceiving the people."

Chung Ji-young, a film director who teaches media studies at Korea University, said marriage and divorce should be off-limits for public discussion, even if they involve high-profile figures.

"It's entirely a matter of individual choice whether (Seo and Lee) wanted to talk about their marriage," Chung said. "They must have agreed with each other to keep it a secret and we can't argue about that."

A new Internet site about actress E Ji-ah, secretly married to musician Seo Tai-ji for the past 14 years, is enjoying explosive popularity after it became known to the public for the first time Thursday.

Legendary rock star Seo Taiji, known as an iconic musician in the 90s and dubbed by his fans as Korea’s “culture president,” stunned the public after the daily SportsSeoul reported on Thursday that Seo has secretly been married to actress E Jiah for the past 14 years and they are in middle of a divorce.

The news came as shock, disappointment, and even betrayal, to Seo’s fans as the 39-year-old pop star has always flatly denied that he was married whenever media outlets reported suspicion of his alleged marriage.

He has even joked to his fans that he’s “married to music.”

Seo’s private life was shrouded in mystery until SportsSeoul reported Thursday that E filed a lawsuit in January demanding 5 billion won ($4.62 million) for division of property and 500 million won in alimony from Seo after they failed to reach an agreement on a divorce settlement.

E’s agency KeyEast released an official statement late Thursday admitting that E and Seo were married in the United States in 1997.

But with regard to SportsSeoul’s report that the two are in the middle of a divorce, E’s agency clarified that the two were divorced in 2009 and they are now in middle of a property division suit.

“E Jiah went to study abroad in the United States in 1993 and she first met Seo at his U.S. concert in Los Angeles in the same year,” the statement read. “E and Seo kept in touch even after Seo returned to Korea by exchanging e-mail and phone calls and then they become lovers.”

Seo was one of the nation’s most influential cultural icons in the 1990s, after debuting with two other singers as Seo Taiji and Boys in 1992. The band broke up in 1996.

The band’s first single “I Know” sent shock waves through the K-pop scene - the first of its kind to combine melodic rap lyrics with dance music. Seo later released several singles but has remained an obscure figure in recent years, with his personal life shrouded in secrecy.

KeyEast said the two lived in Atlanta, Georgia, and Arizona after they married. Seo returned to the Korean pop music scene in June 2000 and E filed for divorce in 2006. The divorce took effect in 2009, according to E’s agency.

“E’s reason for the divorce was that [Seo] was an extraordinary man with an occupation and lifestyle that were different from ordinary people and the two had personality differences,” the agency’s statement read.

E, a 33-year-old actress who debuted in 2007, earned the nickname “Alien” because she kept her private life secret.

Seo’s agency Seo Taiji Company has not yet made an official statement.

E was recently in the spotlight after being spotted last month with actor Jung Woo-sung in Paris. They admitted to being lovers at the time. The two met through “Athena: Goddess of War,” the popular SBS series that ended in February.

Jung was scheduled to celebrate his birthday yesterday but the party was canceled after he heard the news Thursday.

Jung’s agency said Jung did not know that E and Seo were married and he’s shocked.

A divorce usually entails financial disputes over alimony, division of assets and child support. Alimony is the money paid by the husband or wife who caused the divorce to his or her spouse to compensate for psychological damage. The couple also splits assets and property that they jointly created over their marriage. Even the spouse at fault can demand an asset split. If the couple has children, they must decide who will have custody, and the spouse who does not must pay child support. Of the three, the asset split usually involves the largest amount of money.

A spouse can own his or her property but it is not necessary to register co-ownership of a house purchased over the marriage period. Unless a house is inherited, it is considered a couple’s common asset even if its ownership is registered under one spouse’s name. Even if a husband and his wife have separate bank accounts, the assets accumulated in their marriage are shared. But one has an exclusive claim over the assets he or she had before marriage. The common assets are split in accordance with contributions based on the length of the marriage, age and economic activities. In a divorce between an employed husband and a full-time housewife, a wife married for 10 years makes bigger contributions than one married for three years. Household labor is usually recognized for an average of 30 percent of the assets accumulated in a marriage.


Actress Lee Ji-ah is suing her husband Seo Tai-ji, a Korean pop music pioneer, for 500 million won (462,748 U.S. dollars) in alimony and 5 billion won (4.6 million dollars) in division of assets. The suit had no claims over child custody. Customarily, divorce-related financial claims are made simultaneously with a divorce suit.
