The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism has announced its plans for next year, which include setting its sights on overseas markets for Korean cultural content.

Among its plans, the ministry highlighted a goal to create a new Korean pop culture boom overseas by nurturing companies that earn more than 100 million dollars in sales from exporting cultural content such as dramas, animation and computer games.

The ministry plans to increase the number of high-level cultural content exporters with annual sales of more than 100 million dollars from the current seven to 30 by 2013.

An additional 100 billion won will be put into a fund that invests in the production of dramas, documentaries and game programs.

The ministry will also push for the revision of a copyright protection law to punish those who illegally copy and download music and movie files.
