It seems like JDG and KSY are finally getting married at Shilla Hotel in Seoul on May 2nd.
I have been receiving many questions like “Why is JDG getting married to KSY?” on/off lines since news about their dating and consideration of marriage came out. Whenever I receive these questions, I could’t help to think that there are insurmountable differences in the appreciations between the ones who understand ‘this field’ and the ones who don’t.
Of course, among those who have questions above, there are more people who love one side more excessively than the other (if anything, JDG side). Ah, of course, normal judgment is impossible in the first place on a level of who is better than the other.
I think it could be better for you interpret the title, ‘Why is JDG getting married to KSY?’ for ‘Why can’t JDG marry a regular person?’ for broad meaning.

Years ago, I questioned an actor, who is in so-called ‘Hally star’ class, about the problems which he can’t discuss with others as a top star whom everyone envies. It was a very comfortable situation, and he answered comfortably. It was ‘Desire for a relationship with the opposite sex can’t be resolved’.
Of course, it sounds like a joke, but when you think about it, it is a serious problem. For example, it’s known that Hollywood stars enjoy a very freestyle life. We can’t say that it’s excessive compared to public sex standards in that country. Specially, no one picks at a personal life when he/she is a single. But the controversial issue will be developed if he/she has a relationship with minors or prostitutes.

But, Korean fans are very conservative (I used the word, conservative, but you can read it hypocritically.) Regardless of the sex, most fans want their stars to have a puritanical life beyond an average person’s life. I think that there are not many people who can deny this confidently.
For example, it doesn’t sound weird if a noticeably attractive person between the ages of 20s and 30s would date 10 persons in 10 years. it’s about one person per year. But if a star between 25 – 35 years old would be noticed dating 10 people, there is a high possibility that he would be called a ‘Casanova’, ‘Frogcow, and ‘Gar**’, etc. right away.
Specially, the degree of purity grows higher as the star’s popularity goes up. Recently, the shackles of ‘Hallyu stars’ work very intensively as well. It might sound like a joke, I heard that some Japanese fans among those who fell in love with Bae Yong Joon through ‘Winter Sonata’ got shocked when they watched his sex scenes in the movie ‘Scandal’ or ‘April Snow’.

If these fans hear the news saying that he was found in the prostitute quarters like Hugh Grant and Jack Nicholson (Of course, it’s an imaginary story. I’m sorry, Bae Yong Joon ssi.), the result of it will be beyond our imagination. Even though it’s not such a critical situation like this, it has to be cautiously mentioned that someone is meeting or dating with so and so.
On top of that, it’s very hard to meet and date with a new person physically. Even though he’s willing to do that, the chances are very limited. There is no one who is surrounded by the wall of people except the top stars. Numbers of the closest to him, so he can open his heart, are very limited and it’s not easy for him to be introduced to the opposite sex like a regular person.
(Usually, there is saying that ‘the reporters are chasing them excessively, but these days the entertainers saying this as a joke; ‘There are forty millions reporters.’ [suehan: I believe the population of Korea are forty million, so which means all the Koreans could be reporters] If someone posted ‘The date scenes of %%% which I saw’ on the internet like Daum Television and there is no difference on an average media.)

Ironically, there are very limited numbers of the regular people who can be around with the top stars. Those who go to the similar designer’s shop or make-up studio or have similar living standards to the top stars could have chances to be around with them. But, it could produce the unimaginable results, because there are a little abnormal group, ‘Korean style Groupie’, who thread their way through the entertainers.
They are stationed around the entertainers with a considerable wealth and beauty different with ‘Ppasoonii’ (suehan: I think it means the girls who chase their idol star.) and many of them have good backgrounds who can be ‘a partner in the future’. But, the problem is that their numbers are very limited and one person can have a relationship with numbers of stars. Actually, a pretty good numbers of the stars dated with them as a suitable partner, but they were frustrated when they heard that ‘She used to date with &&&, $$$ some time ago.’
After they went through these experiences, some entertainers are very cautious to meet a regular person who is getting close to them. They kept doubting them for “Korean style Groupie’ who station to meet ‘the entertainer’, not ‘me’. Of course, if he meets her just one, then it couldn’t be a problem, but a serious relationship is difficult.
Anyway, the steps for a regular person, which is getting to know about a partner from a long relationship/dating and opening the eyes for each other’s good/bad side and decide to spend the remainder of his life with her, are actually impossible for the top stars. And the higher his popularity, the harder it is.

Whoever doesn’t know the situation could expect the dream meeting with the star like ‘Notting Hill’, but when we think about the reality that the affectionate relationship can be ignored due to the star’s hectic schedules and security, it is a self-torture which a regular person can’t endure.
Then, they tend to think that ‘Who is the right person knows about me, so it’s unnecessary to explain my situation, and who can comfort me?’ To a regular person, the colleagues at work or friends from the young ages or school buddies belong in this category. And KSY would belong in here for JDG. Who can understand ‘JDG’s heart’ better than KSY?

P.S. 1. When I think about these issues, I think of Kim Yuna, whom she can date with anyway? She is in her good 20es, so it’s not weird at all if she dates and has a relationship with someone, but it won’t be that easy to cross the pouring interests from the world. Not only Kim Yuna, but it’ll be a great ordeal for a partner. (Decent tolerance might not work to overcome the national hostility^^)
P.S. 2. Of course, the contents above are applied more to the male top stars. For the female top stars, next time~
